Found on the pavement whilst walking home late one evening through back streets of Islington. Carried it home over my shoulder, a cyclist passed by and did a double take “nice chair!”. It was at this point without a seat so I sawed a piece of wood to size, padded it and stretched a piece of cloth I’d dyed in the summer. Now sits at the head of the table…

A hand me down from a friend, so pretty but too small so I unpicked the facings, sewed them into a strip to make a sneaky side seam panel. and now it fits!

April: When supposed to be packing when I was moving out of my old house (which was an old pub), I found in the bottom of the dresser in the laundry room a bag of fabric. In it was long strips of screwed up turquoise fabric. Any distraction from packing welcome I ironed them out and sewed them together. Getting to the stage of tacking it to a blanket. Almost a quilt…but the boxes weren’t looking any more packed…

May and June: So took it to the house I was lodging in for 2 months, laid on the back of the armchair where it got drawn instead of finished.

July: it moved with me in my homemade basket

August: finally found a fabric to back it with and a bed to put it on…

Where my old housemate sees it and tells me she cut the fabric from the bottom of a dress she got in India!

so it seems I only know one chapter of this fabric…

A nice surpise…
